Committee : Stephen Sun Chiao, Ph.D.

Dr. Chiao is a Managing Partner of Sycamore Ventures. He focuses on semiconductor, technology/manufacturing outsourcing, internet (wired & wireless) related products and services and specialty material investments. He serves on the boards of ACM Research, Inc., Applied Optoelectronics, Inc., Avalent Technologies, Inc., Corrigo, Inc., TeleNav, Inc., in the United States as well as IPCore Technologies and Net263 (board observer) in China. Meanwhile, he serves on the advisory boards of AplusFlash, Ralink Technology and Flexchip.

Dr. Chiao is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at San Jose State University where he established the Integrated Circuits Lab and directed the Broadband Optical Networking Laboratory. Dr. Chiao was appointed as the Honorary and Guest Professor at The University of Shanghai for Science and Technology(USST), China Institute of Metrology (CIM) and Hangzhou Institute of Electronics Engineering in 2002.

Prior to joining Sycamore, Dr. Chiao advised several high-tech startups and investments in Silicon Valley. Between 1986 and 1996, he co-founded three companies: Analog Microsystems, Wincomm Communications in Taiwan, and Elite Semiconductors, which was acquired by publicly-traded Mosel Electronics Group in Taiwan. He then served as Vice President of Mosel in charge of business development in foundry, intellectual property, new product development, and M&A activities.

Dr. Chiao received his Bachelor's Degree from National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, Master's Degree from the University of Southern California, and Ph.D. from Stanford University.
