Joseph R. Mannes joined Halter USX China Index's Selection Committee in October 2003. He serves as a managing director in the corporate finance department of SAMCO Capital Markets, a Dallas, TX broker-dealer and a division of Penson Financial Services, Inc. From October 1998 until July 2001, he was chief financial officer and secretary of Clearwire Technologies, Inc. of Arlington, Texas, a manufacturer and operator of wireless Internet networks, as well as a provider of Internet connectivity. From January to July 2000, he also served as chief financial officer of E-Certify Corporation, a security-oriented information technologies consultancy focusing on web applications. From April 1997 to September 1998, he was vice president and general manager of Imagic Online, the online game subsidiary of Interactive Magic, a Cary, NC, computer game company. Prior to that he was Chief Financial Officer of Imagic Online's predecessor company, Interactive Creations, Inc. From 1987 to 1995 Mr. Mannes worked in the corporate finance department of Rauscher Pierce Refsnes, Inc., a Dallas, TX investment bank, reaching the position of First Vice President. From 1982 to 1987 he was a commercial lender for The First National Bank of Boston in Boston, MA and Dallas, TX, reaching the position of Assistant Vice President.
Since May 1998, Mr. Mannes has served as a director of The Leather Factory, a Fort Worth, TX manufacturer, wholesale distributor and retailer of leather and related products sold worldwide through Leather Factory and Tandy Leather stores. He also serves on the advisory board of Conchemco, Inc. and is chairman of HiTech Creations, Inc.
Mr. Mannes is a chartered financial analyst. He has a Masters of Business Administration in finance and accounting from the Wharton School, Graduate Division of the University of Pennsylvania and an AB in Philosophy and French from Dartmouth College.
