Dallas, TX - The USX China Index ("^USXC")
finished the year up 103.8%, rising 25.6% for the month of December. By
comparison, the Dow Jones Industrial Average posted a 25.3% gain for
2003 and was up 6.9% in December, while the Nasdaq was up 50.0% for the
year and 2.2% in December. The Shanghai Composite Index, which tracks
stocks trading directly on the Shanghai exchange, ended the year up
10.3%, showing a 7.1% gain in December. "The significant gains for the
past year in The USX China Index reflect the heavy buying interest shown
by investors toward Chinese-focused public companies that have their
securities traded on U.S. regulated stock exchanges," said Tim Halter,
Managing Director of the USX China Index. "The past year's performance
underscores two important trends. In the U.S. markets, Chinese stocks
are outpacing U.S. companies and Chinese companies listed in the U.S.
are significantly outperforming their counterparts listed directly on
Chinese exchanges."
The USX China Index was launched in October 2003 as the only index in
the world devoted exclusively to Chinese-focused public companies traded
on U.S. stock exchanges.
The biggest gainer within The USX China Index during the month of
December was Sinopec Beijing Yanhua Petrochemical Co. Ltd. (NYSE: BYH -
News), posting an increase of 76.4%, while the biggest decliner was
Netease.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTES - News), which was down 20.9% in the
month of December.
Looking at the year, the index's biggest gainer was China Yuchai (NYSE:
CYD - News), which was up 570% in 2003, while the lowest performer was
AsiaInfo Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASIA - News), up 5% in 2003.
It was also announced that two new companies were added this week to the
USX China Index: China Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NYSE: LFC - News) and

(Nasdaq: CTRP - News).
With the two new additions, there are now 34 companies represented in
